Day 52 - Fietsvierdaagse Hoeven

Last day of the 4-day Fietsvierdaagse Hoeven and it was cold and raining!

Ineke kept an eye on the radar weather patterns which indicated that it should clear by late morning. The rain did ease, and so Ineke, Frances and I headed off to meet, Annelise and Jeanne who were riding with us today. By the time we arrived at the start, the light drizzle had stopped and it looked like a perfect cycling day – cool and overcast. Quite a relief for us after the earlier hot sunny days, except the Dutch loved the hot weather!

This day the route headed south, along side the woods and towards De Posthoorn camping ground. The most interesting stop was at the Skidome, a venue with an all year indoor ski slope. So there we were, sitting in the bar-café, watching people learn to snowboard, while outside a Dutch brass band was playing in a carpark full of bicycles.

All the finishers were rewarded with miniature bottle of champagne with bicycle keyrings – we’re bringing at least one home, the rest we enjoyed with dinner that night.

Although tired after cycling for a few days, it was great to have participated in the event, both to spend time riding with friends and share the general camaraderie of the other riders – a very Dutch experience.
